amissbennet: (pleasant day (pride & prejudice))

I am to understand that the writings here correspond to others in this county, and that by writing within I am also sharing my words with others. I dare say it brings to mind the sort of chance acquaintance that I might dream of and that my mother would find absolutely nonsensical. What better way to hear the news of town? And yet, also, what better way to be known by strangers and to chance that the wrong sort of person might come to know you? I feel as though I have inherited a small fortune, that so many people should know so much about me.

Though I have become somewhat acquainted with my residence here, I must admit that I had not expected to be aboard a ship such as this, or to find my room in such familiarity. I do hope you will forgive my candor. My name is Miss Elizabeth Bennet and I am quite at my leisure to meet any person who should desire to call upon me.

Hello, Miss Bennet. I'm Una Persson. Welcome aboard.

Oh, Mr Darcy.

I mean, I asked for Jane Eyre, but this is close enough. Very impressive, Barge, very.

Welcome to the Barge, Mademoiselle Bennet. I cannot imagine a young lady of such refinement being an inmate, therefore you must be a warden. I am Armand St. Just, also a warden.

Why are you so worried about the wrong sorts of people? All sorts of people are interesting.

Oh boy...

Um, welcome aboard. You'll mostly regret it.

I am afraid your introduction leaves me entirely unaware of with whom I am speaking. Hello, I say again. My name is Miss Elizabeth Bennet.

lolz. have fun with it!

I beg your pardon? Does the gentleman know Mr. Darcy? I am afraid I have not yet made acquaintance with any Eyres and therefore cannot possibly know of which Jane you speak.

I might also mention, sir, that to make such remarks without introduction could be considered terribly rude.

Thank you! It is a great pleasure to be making new acquaintances.

Might I inquire as to whether you are one of the "wardens" or those whom are considered "inmates"?

I'm a Warden. One without an inmate for the time being, but that's the job I signed up for, in any case.

I am indeed a warden, though I cannot reasonably say that it was my manners alone which earned me the title. It is a great pleasure to make your acquaintance, Mr Just.

I am wondering if you might do me the honor of informing me where I might find the Enclosure I have heard tell about?

I dare say you will find me to be more adventurous in spirit than you give me credit for, Miss. Might I inquire as to the name of the lady who worries with such swiftness as to my health?

I might agree that while each person may have tales of their own and an interest produced, no person is entirely without fault. I only mean that there are people whose acquaintance it might be better not to have made, including perhaps those who would venture an argument without the grace to offer introductions first.

It is a pity, then, that you have not yet found the resources to endeavor your duties. I will wish that they might come soon for you.

You're... Blimey. We really do get all sorts, don't we?

I'm Ace. Welcome to the barge!

Just be careful of floods and ports and things... They're a nightmare.

It's St. Just. Mr. St. Just. I don't mean to sound churlish, Mlle. Bennet.

The Enclosure is on the second deck above the main first level. Only wardens have access up there unless the inmate has permission.

I've never really been considered polite.

I am not sure it is such a blessing to be known so publicly, Miss Bennett. Although, personally, I find it quite liberating to be able to write so publicly, I still find one must be careful what one writes.

I would advise against meeting anyone who desires so. Not all of them have the best of intentions. I should, of course, introduce myself; I am Colonel Edward Sexby, but feel free to address me by my last name, everyone else does.

Oh, I don't doubt it!

Rayne... Just Rayne.

By the by, you'll read me cursing a lot - and plenty of others, too. You might find this strange, but... A lot of us are from your future. Like, your far future.

I feel that I must inquire as to your name before I continue to become so intimately acquainted with you. After all, how do I know the gentleman is not a relation of or close to our dear Mr Darcy?

From: [identity profile] amissbennet.livejournal.com
I wish to offer my sincerest apologies, Mr St Just. I did not mean to cause offense.

Thank you kindly. Why is it that the "inmates" cannot enter the Enclosure? I cannot doubt that there are many as in want of the outdoors as I.
